In the heart of a bustling little town, nestled between the rolling hills and charming storefronts, WATMA was started by a single-mother (Ms Chabata-Mawere). For years, WATMA had been a haven for many locals and city visitors offering all kinds of convenient items from bread, milk, sugar, peanut butter, fried nuts and many others. The aim was for the single-mother to fend for her four children through middle and high school. But as fate would have it, a devastating economic meltdown hit not only the town but the country at large leaving the single-mother penniless and WATMA becoming a sinking business in the late 2000s.

Ms Chabata-Mawere was a dedicated and very hard working single-mother, pouring her heart and soul into the business, and it was also where her young son, Dr Tatenda Chabata, had grown up. When the economic crisis struck, the single-mother faced a difficult choice and that was to close WATMA after operating the business for over 12 years, though she tried to fight on, the odds were stacked against her.

Dr Chabata, a hardworking and compassionate son who learnt the ethos of hard work, commitment and dedication pays, couldn’t bear to see his single-mother’s dreams crumble. He watched as she worked tirelessly, day in and day out, just to keep the business afloat. Her face etched with worry, often spending sleepless nights crunching numbers to keep the business afloat.

Thanks to the determination and hard work of her son who refused to let his single-mother’s dream fade away. Dr Chabata’s resilience and ability to adapt to the ever-changing world of business, took a new positive turn in 2018 to revive and transform the business into WATMA Group Pty Ltd. A new fresh look with new offerings from consulting, events and logistics services for our valued customers.
